A raptor with no qualms about consuming its opponents wins New Zealand’s annual hen election
New Zealand’s annual hen election is contested by cheeky parrots, candy songbirds and cute, puffball robins. This 12 months’s winner was a mysterious falcon that wouldn’t suppose twice about consuming them.
Kārearea, the Indigenous Māori identify for the New Zealand falcon, was topped Bird of the Year on Monday. But the annual ballot, run by conservation group Forest & Bird, isn’t any atypical on-line vote.
The fiercely fought election sees volunteer (human) marketing campaign managers apply to stump for his or her favourite hen. Feathers fly as avian fans search to sway the general public by means of meme battles, trash-talking poster campaigns and dance routines carried out in hen costumes.
