DoorDash’s New Delivery Robot That Can Haul 30 Pounds Of Food At 20 MPH – Foodbeast

If you reside in Los Angeles or New York, you will have seen meals supply robots rolling up and down the streets. Whether you like or hate them, it’s trying like they’re right here to remain.

In a brand new growth, DoorDash is launching supply robots in choose cities to deal with rising buyer demand, which within the second quarter of 2025, resulted in a 20% increase in income.

“The shift to autonomy is happening right now, and DoorDash is uniquely positioned to do something like this,” stated co-founder Standley Tang. “We need to find ways to keep up with the demand. The complexity of the deliveries being made on our platform is increasing too.”

The supply robots, known as “Dot,” are vibrant crimson, 3-feet-wide, 4.5-feet-tall, and may match as much as six massive pizza containers or 30 kilos of cargo. They may also journey at speeds as much as 20 MPH. Unlike present supply bots, which follow sidewalks, Dot is designed to traverse streets and driveways, too.

The transfer follows an expanded partnership between DoorDash and Kroger, through which the previous will now provide supply at the entire grocer’s U.S. areas. Users can now make restaurant reservations through the app, like OpenTable and Instacart.

Dot was developed over 7 years to compete with present supply bots, that are restricted to brief runs on school campuses or sidewalks. It was optimized utilizing in-house knowledge and designed for longer-distance deliveries in city areas and suburban neighborhoods.

“After 10 billion deliveries, we have data on what works, what breaks and what scales,” stated Tang. In the previous few months, Dot accomplished a whole bunch of deliveries within the Phoenix space, and if testing continues to progress easily, DoorDash plans to develop it to different cities.

Dot isn’t the one new supply tech being examined. For a number of years now, DoorDash has examined drone supply in Australia, Texas, and North Carolina.
