NATO allies are contemplating deploying armed drones alongside the Russian border — and loosening restrictions on when pilots can shoot down enemy plane, based on a report.

The talks had been initiated by frontline NATO states that border Russia, backed by the UK and France, however have since broadened to a bigger group within the 32-strong alliance, NATO officers instructed the Financial Times.

Among the proposals on the desk are the arming of surveillance drones that accumulate intelligence on Moscow’s navy actions, and decreasing the bar for pilots patrolling the border to take down Russian threats.
