Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews packed the streets and sidewalks for blocks across the Israeli Consulate in New York City on Sunday to protest points together with a possible finish of an exemption for non secular college students from obligatory service in Israel’s navy.

The protest on the consulate, a block from the United Nations campus in Manhattan, illustrated the complicated relationship between Israel and segments of the big inhabitants of very non secular Jews in New York and its suburbs.

The two influential, and sometimes rival, grand rebbes of the Satmar group each known as on adherents to take part within the demonstration.
