“Getting ‘Cape Fear’ from that review is crazy”: Martin Scorsese hilariously struggles to guess his own films from chaotic Letterboxd reviews

Francesca Scorsese posted a playful challenge where her father, director Martin Scorsese, guessed his own movies using only vague Letterboxd reviews. The short TikTok video featured plenty of deadpan humor, and fans watched the 82-year-old filmmaker take each absurd hint very seriously.

Francesca opened by saying, “Hi, I’m Francesca Scorsese, and today I am going to be reading my dad Letterboxd reviews, and he has to guess which film of his they are about.” With that, the guessing began.
The TikTok guessing game
The first review read, “Ratatouille would have thrived in this environment. I won’t explain further.” Martin frowned and replied, “That’s not a very good clue. Give me another hint.”
Francesca insisted, “This one’s really hard. That’s it.” Eventually, he offered a hesitant answer, saying, “Goodfellas?” He landed it.
Next, Francesca delivered, “My alternate title: White people ruin everything, the movie.” Immediately, Martin answered, “Oh, Killers of the Flower Moon.” She followed with another note from a separate reviewer, “nothing could have prepared me for Leo’s teeth in this one.” He joked, “He has bad teeth. And I tell you, the dentist was the barber.”
They rolled into “Pro-lobotomy propaganda tbh.” Martin responded, “Is that the… The Shutter Island thing? I wouldn’t go so far as to say pro-lobotomy. It’s a… You have to see the whole film.”
Soon after, he nailed “In the end, we’re all rats with cell phones” by saying, “That’s Departed” without hesitation.
Francesca succeeded in stumping him with, “I hope Martin Scorsese never finds out about stan twitter.” He admitted, “I don’t know what Stan Twitter is. Sorry.” The correct answer was The King of Comedy.
Then came, “Chat, do I need therapy for being SO attracted to De Niro in this?” Martin instantly replied Cape Fear, prompting his daughter to ask how he knew so fast.
Finally, they ended with, “Martin Scorsese made this one for the girls and I’m so glad he did!” Again, he answered smoothly, ‘Well, The Age of Innocence. It’s not for girls, it’s for everyone.”
Before signing off, Francesca plugged the Apple TV docuseries about him, saying viewers could “learn more about this man behind the lens.” Martin joked, “I’ll try to make it as silly as this was,” and she told him, “You’re just a silly goose.” He chuckled that people in England already called him that.
