PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti— A bunch of suspected Haitian gang members fired this week on American forces defending the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, a spokesman stated Saturday, in an incident that highlighted the tense safety state of affairs within the Caribbean nation.

Capt. Steven J. Keenan, a spokesman for the U.S. Marines, wrote in an e mail that the capturing, which got here to gentle this weekend, occurred Thursday, including that the Marines returned fireplace. No Marines had been harm within the assault.
