Wildebeest migration has shrunk by 90% in Kenya’s Maasai Mara as a result of fences being constructed, reveals new analysis.
The annual spectacle – a magnet for eco vacationers – has seen a “dramatic” decline during the last 5 years, warn conservationists.
The new examine exhibits Mara-Loita white-bearded wildebeest populations have misplaced round 90% of their historic migratory footprint since 2020 as a result of development of fencing and different man-made limitations.
Just north of the nice Serengeti wildebeest migration – featured in lots of wildlife documentaries, the analysis reveals a smaller migration throughout the Mara ecosystem is “collapsing”.
