City spends $33,500 to rename avenue after indigenous tribe, lawmaker slams ‘woke’ transfer

A Canadian metropolis allegedly spent greater than $33,000 in taxpayer cash to rename a avenue after an indigenous tribe — a transfer one lawmaker slammed as bowing to “woke” voices.

MLA Dallas Brodie claimed the City of Vancouver spent $33,500 during the last three years to rename Trutch Street — which was named after British Columbia’s first governor normal, Joseph Trutch — to  šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street.

The new title interprets to Musqueamview, referencing the Musqueam individuals who had their land taken by Trutch.
