
Good as gold! Trove of two,000-year-old treasure pulled from underwater metropolis off coast of Egypt
A tantalizing trove of treasure from a 2,000-year-old underwater metropolis was pulled from the ocean off the coast of Egypt Thursday, a lot to the delight of artwork and historical past buffs.
The historic artifacts — together with statues of a sphinx and a pharaoh — from the long-submerged metropolis of Canopus have been lifted by crane from the shallow waters of Abu Qir Bay, Egyptian officers stated.
“There’s a lot underwater, but what we’re able to bring up is limited. It’s only specific material according to strict criteria,” Sherif Fathi, Egypt’s tourism and antiquities minister, instructed reporters, based on NBC.
“The rest will remain part of our sunken heritage,” Fathi stated.
