When Olivier Baroin moved into an condo in Montmartre about 15 years in the past, it felt like he was dwelling in a village within the coronary heart of Paris. Not anymore.

Stores for residents are disappearing, together with the pleasant environment, he says. In their place are hordes of individuals taking selfies, outlets promoting vacationer trinkets, and cafés whose seating spills into the slim, cobbled streets as overtourism takes its toll.

Baroin has had sufficient. He put his condo up on the market after native streets had been designated pedestrian-only whereas accommodating the rising variety of guests.
