
Hundreds of historic tall ships arrive in Amsterdam for maritime pageant
AMSTERDAM (AP) — Crowds packed vantage factors alongside a significant canal Wednesday to observe a flotilla of a whole bunch of historic ships sail into Amsterdam in the beginning of a five-day pageant celebrating the Dutch capital’s maritime historical past.
Ships from everywhere in the world, many with their masts and rigging embellished with flags, left the North Sea coastal city of IJmuiden to start their hours-long journey up the North Sea Canal and into Amsterdam’s IJ waterway for SAIL 2025, the primary version in a decade.
A puff of orange smoke erupted into the sky, and ships’ horns sounded because the duplicate three-masted clipper Stad Amsterdam handed via a lock to mark the official begin of the occasion.
