The United States is terminating South Sudan’s designation for momentary protected standing, which for years allowed folks from the East African nation to stay within the U.S. legally and escape armed battle again residence.

The termination will likely be efficient Jan. 5, the Department of Homeland Security stated in a press release.

“After conferring with interagency partners, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem determined that conditions in South Sudan no longer meet the TPS statutory requirements,” the assertion stated.
