Three migrant sisters drown in ‘dangerously overcrowded’ boat, 65 others rescued at sea: ‘It was sheer horror’
Three younger Sudanese sisters fleeing their war-torn nation drowned within the central Mediterranean after their overcrowded rubber dinghy started taking over water in tough seas, in keeping with a German nonprofit.
The three ladies, ages 9, 11 and 17, have been crammed on a small boat alongside dozens of different migrants on the ocean hall that stretches from Zuwara, Libya, towards the southern Italian island of Lampedusa.
Roughly 65 folks have been bunched collectively aboard a flimsy inflatable as waves climbed to about 5 toes, the German rescue charity RESQSHIP mentioned in an announcement. The vessel is believed to have set sail from Libya both late Friday or early Saturday morning and was headed for Italy.
